Meet Our Tehama County K9 Officers Tehama County Sheriff’s Department K-9 Rogue
Tehama County Sheriff’s Department K-9 Rogue and Sergeant Benson
Sergeant Benson and K9 Rogue met in Chico in 2020. Rogue will be 5 years old in December and is an all black German Shepherd. Rogue was purchased from a trainer who orders dogs from Slovakia. After K9 Rogue was acquired, him and Sgt. Benson went through a 5 week basic handlers course. K9 Rogue was trained in narcotics detection, patrol and handler protection. They have always had a great relationship since the beginning. They spent the first few weeks bonding and spending every waking minute together. Sgt. Benson even hand fed K9 Rogue for the first week to help establish the strong bond they carry today. Sgt. Benson said they work so well together that Rogue hates being separated from him. He said that Rogue keeps his eyes on him every second and does not let him out of his sight. Rogue is comfortable with the Benson family and loves Sgt. Benson's wife! He said he likes women and male dispatchers, too. He thinks the male dispatchers give him good vibes as he isn't a fan of most men. Rogue has his own kennel outside that he sleeps in. When there are bad storms he will come inside the house and sleep in a portable kennel. Some fun facts about Rogue are that he loves toys. His favorite is a ball on a rope. When Sgt. Benson is in the office Rogue enjoys sitting under his desk and stays with him every minute. Rogue loves to be scratched behind the ears and on the neck. Sgt. Benson said that if Rogue could go to work everyday he would. He said Rogue is not only his partner, but his best friend!
