Meet Our Tehama County K9 Officers Tehama County Probation Department K-9 Riggs
Tehama County Probation Department K-9 Riggs and Officer Duarte
K9 Riggs is a 5 year old German Shepherd/Belgium Malinois cross who was imported from Slovakia. Riggs met his handler, Officer Duarte, in April of 2018 in Chico. He was chosen out of a group of K9's that a vendor, Meyer’s Police K9 Training, had brought in whom met the Probation agencies needs and wants. Duarte said they worked together searching and watched how he interacted with him and the toy. Needless to say they hit it off from the get go. Duarte says that Riggs is still very social and is always excited to go to work. He said for him it was a challenge as he went from working with his first K9 who was seven to a new canine who was a year old. Although challenging they grew and learned together creating a strong bond. Riggs loves to play outside with the family and also play with the other family dogs. Although, he can be mischievous at times when he gets bored. He does enjoy being inside as well, but primarily likes to be inside his kennel as he knows then he can relax and "turn off" after work. Riggs will do anything for food or a toy. He is a big dork at home and tends to not listen as well at home, knowing that he is "off duty." His goal in life is to be rewarded, which is what makes these types of dogs such great police K9's.
